Is perspective art the truth?

My former student, Steph Douglas '12 forwarded me this lovely piece by Thomas Quinn, a graphic designer living in Chicago.

To my mind, it reminds me of several things we did in class:
  • the first day when we taped windows, we learned that there's just one spot to see the same picture that the "art director" saw;
  • we drew letters on a flat paper looking like they receded into this distance.  Quinn reverses this by making letters that actually do recede into the distance appear to be flat.  Cool!; and
  • when we prove theorems about projective geometry, are looking at a real Truth?  Or are we just futzing around with axioms and perspective?
